Solitude has many facets, yet in its purest form, it is not merely the absence of company but a profound, introspective state where one finds solace and connection with the essence of existence. While often associated with loneliness or sadness, solitude also holds a deeply positive dimension. It can serve as a tranquil retreat from the cacophony of everyday life, offering a sanctuary for reflection and self-discovery.
However, solitude is not solely a refuge—it also harbours a darker side of human emotions. Lurking in the shadows, it can lead one into the depths of an inner world, where struggles unfold in blindness and oblivion. Yet, within this serene isolation, one can discern the subtle nuances of solitude that often go unnoticed amid the relentless motion of life.
When there is only you and nature, free from distractions, your emotions become clearer, allowing introspection to take hold. In this space, where aptitude meets passion, one can find solace and a sense of purpose—a raison d’être, a reason for being. On a personal level I can relate to this experience through my time spent in remote outdoor places as it provides a unique vantage point from which to observe the world. In these moments, I feel a profound connection between self and nature – a bond that fosters healing, reduces stress, and nurtures creativity. It is another reason I aim for the photographs to look more ethereal rather than lonely as the landscape coupled with the subject or object can help connect the viewer with the beauty of solitude.
I envision a series of monochrome images that explore this profound connection between humans and nature, uncovering the beauty that can be found in this isolation and evoke a sense of calm reflection. The goal is to craft a visual narrative that transcends mere representation – creating a kind of visual poetry that embodies solitude’s many facets. Through careful composition, different camera techniques, the use of shooting with plastic & sheer materials, lens effects, natural light formulate the images.
